Dazza Rinehart vs. David Wiles, 7 July 1993

A variety of technical and logistical problems delayed the beginning ofplay, difficulties that continued even after the game began. Low batterypower prevented automated computer scoring, so the results of each individualturn were noted on paper. The cumulative points, however, were not calculatedduring the game. Play began with a sixty point play by Wiles, and the gameprogressed rapidly after that. The lively play was attributed, in part,to each player's ignorance of the score. After the conclusion of play, thecomputer was turned on briefly for the scores to be entered. The calculationsrevealed that Rinehart has survived both a strong opening and closing gameby Wiles to win by a final score of 278 to 275.
