Old Art/Publications: Anything I didn’t do within the last year or so is old work. And mostly old work is all you’ll find here. I spent a decade or so making a lot of conceptual art—for lack of a better label—that was designed to be downloaded and printed by the viewer (that would be you).

Most of my recent work doesn’t work very well on a computer monitor, and I’m not quite sure what to do about that. Until I do feel free to drop by the fort and I’ll show you what I’ve been doing.

The old stuff’s still here; have a look. In an ideal world I would not have to provide instructions on how to do something as simple as looking at visual art. As you, dear viewer, have no doubt already concluded from your own empirical evidence, this is not an ideal world and the Internet is anything but simple. It is thus with regret that I have provided technical notes if you don’t know your pdf from your ascii.

From 1973 until more or less the present I made and am making the sort of photographs a chromophobe would make. The beginning, the end.

An afterthought: I now know how Constance Hope, the eldest daughter of the Duke of Felbersham must have felt in 1743 when her father arranged for her to marry Johann Philipp Emanuel Krauler, an eligible Hapsburg bachelor.

Constance was not happy to have been set up with Johann, by all accounts one of the most desirable Austrians of his day. Her diaries reveal she felt she thought he was a fop, a dandy, and “without such puissance as Our Creator has blessed the humble dung beetle.” She appalled her father by snubbing Johann and eloping with her “swarthy” Italian footman Enrico. They had a happy marriage.

If I’m Constance, then the Internet is Johann and I’m still looking for Enrico ... or at least for a better metaphor. Nevertheless, my art here is art because I say so, whether it is Internet art or just art disseminated through the Internet are two entirely different questions, both of which I am too lazy to answer.
